Scott Orsi's Report:

WHAT A DAY! For those who weren't there, I can't overemphasize how well
this came off (especially considering that we the organizers were all
novices at this type of thing). Michael, Toth, and yours truly bantered
and debated in cyberspace about ideas, activities, guests, costs,
locations, and even the "convention" name amongst ourselves for quite a
while. In the end, all our toil was not in vain. I am truly amazed at
what Michael put together with our input. Kelly is right, we are all in
your debt! Special thanks also to Jade and my fellow SubGenius
Reverend, Toth Wilder. I'll leave the backstory regarding their
specific contributions and recollections to them.

As for me, seeing that everything necessary was covered for this
blessed day was my goal. Mission to be accomplished except one vital
missing detail... there just HAD to be a DEVO tribute band performance!
I simply wouldn't take no for an answer. So, knowing that Kelly, Pete,
and Mark of Duty Now For The Future were equally as committed to this
idea, and that they would be there, I began contacting additional
musically inclined Spuds individually towards their participation, and
rented a minivan to haul as much gear and DEVOlved attire as I thought
necessary to ride Dobbs' "Luck Plane" from ChiTown to O-Hi-O. What
happened afterwards was nothing less than miraculous.

We met at D2K Hotel Headquarters at about 1:00 AM Saturday, and
realizing we were short on gear, short a guitarist, short on time, and
having never played a collective musical note together before, we drew
up a tentative set list. We arose early the next morning to attempt a
pre-D2K rehearsal, which did not happen until late that evening about
one hour before we took the stage! However, this was destiny, and the
spirit of De-EVOlution was looking out for us. Like manna from Heaven,
YoniPin Will arrived with a guitar and performed Bob1's guitar parts
with stunning precision. Rev. Stang rushed home, and brought us a
couple of synths to use. CD Truth allowed us to use their drums and an
amp. While CD Truth played, the 5 of us rehearsed for the first time in
the basement, using no mics, and a trash can lid for drums. Assuming
the primary role of Bob2 (and Mark's keys for Wiggly World, Gut
Feeling, and U Urge) was an additional challenge for me, as I'm more
accustomed to Jerry's bass/bass synth parts. Given all our obstacles, I
for one was EXTREMELY pleased with how we performed. It was such a
pleasure to finally get to play with some truly inspired and DEVOted
musicians. DNFTF R u l e s, and Will kicks ass!!!

For one special day, it WAS a Beautiful World. Thanks to everyone who
attended, everyone who contributed, and especially to my DEVOlved
brethren who worked tirelessly to make this idea a reality, Rev. Toth
Wilder, and the undisputed king of all DEVO geekdom Michael Pilmer.

As for next year, to quote General Boy, "If you get together next year
I'll get one of them (Mark or Bob1) here." Good start, but I say we
work on all five!!!  * DEVOtional 2001 - The Super Thing *

We must repeat!
